"Dozens" of Americans living in Micronesia "are suing the Bank of Guam for seizing stimulus checks they deposited" in the bank, according to a report published over the weekend, which said the bank took the action "to help the IRS recover tax payments issued in error."

While some expatriate Americans have been receiving and depositing or cashing their U.S. Economic Impact Payments without a problem, others continue to struggle. Fewer non-U.S. banks are willing to handle checks, while the IRS is still not sending money to expats’ overseas bank accounts...

It's been reported that some American expats have already begun receiving the latest Economic Impact Payments that are being sent out now by the U.S. government, with the aim of helping U.S. citizens at home and abroad to cope with the economic consequences of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic...

The Internal Revenue Service said on Monday that it has extended the deadline for Americans to register for an Economic Impact Payment (EIP) by five weeks – to Nov. 21 – to help, in particular, "people who don't typically file a tax return", such as those who don't earn enough to be required to.

Americans who are tax-resident in the UK, and who have recently received Economic Impact Payments from the U.S. government (or who receive them in the weeks and months ahead), will not have to pay tax to HMRC, London-based U.S. tax expert David Treitel says.
